8 Amazing Benefits of Chlorophyll

Chances are you have heard about chlorophyll before, whether from an old science teacher or a recent article on the latest health trends. If you do not know what chlorophyll is, or if you need a brush up from your studies, chlorophyll absorbs light from the sun and turns that light into energy for plants. This is also what gives plants their green color. It is no surprise, then, that a lot of the leafy green vegetables have large amounts of chlorophyll in them.

Besides giving plants their beautiful green color, and a healthy supply of energy, chlorophyll has been linked to many amazing health benefits in humans! From cancer fighting to promoting strong bones and muscles, there is a long list of benefits to chlorophyll. At My Organic Juice, we know this, and that is why we include many chlorophyll rich, green leafy vegetables in our juices.

Continue reading this blog on our site where we will highlight 8 amazing benefits that chlorophyll has on your body and health!

  1. Encourages Healing

Chlorophyll has been used as a healing agent as far back as 100 years.   In a study published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information in 2006, a group of patients concluded that a spray formulation favorably reduced the risk of wound contamination.

  1. Helps to Control Cravings and Hunger

There is evidence that chlorophyll contains enzymes which trigger movement of fatty acids from fat tissue to skeletal muscles where they can be transformed into glucose which is then used for energy.  In addition, chlorophyll contains compounds called thylakoids which appear to enhance weight loss and appetite suppression.

  1. Contains Potent Antioxidants

The antioxidants present in chlorophyll protects cells from oxidative damage through the elimination of free radicals.  In a Netherland based study involving over 120,000 men ages 55 to 69, it was found that the risk of colon cancer increases with a greater intake of heme iron (found in red meat), and a lower intake of chlorophyll.

  1. Helps Promote Healthy Iron Levels

Chlorophyllin, a modified form of chlorophyll, may be highly effective for anemia.  It provides a bioavailable form of iron the body can use by swapping iron for magnesium at the center of the molecule.

  1. Relieves Systemic Redness and Swelling

In a 2012 study entitled “Chlorophyll revisited:  anti-inflammatory activities of chlorophyll a and inhibition of expression of TNF-a gene by the same, “The study shows that chlorophyll a and its degradation products are valuable and abundantly available anti-inflammatory agents and promising for the development of phytomedicine or conventional medicine to treat inflammation and related diseases.”

  1. Promotes Strong Bones and Muscles

Chlorophyll has been known to help in the formation and maintenance of strong bones and contributes towards muscle toning, contraction and relaxation.  Magnesium (the central atom of the chlorophyll molecule) plays an important role in bone health, especially when combined with calcium and Vitamin D.

  1. Aids in Restoring Red Blood Cells

By working at molecular and cellular levels, chlorophyll has the ability to regenerate our body.  It aids in restoring red blood cells and is rich in live enzymes which helps to cleanse the blood and enhance its ability to carry more oxygen.

  1. Helps Fight Cancer

Known to have antimutagenic properties, chlorophyll has been known to contain chemo preventative effects.  It is effective against human colon cancer in men, and stimulates the induction of apoptosis.  Apoptosis is the death of cells that occurs as a normal and controlled part of an organism’s growth or development.

As you can see, there are many benefits to consuming or ingesting green, leafy vegetables containing chlorophyll.  We formulate all of our organic cold pressed juices with the purpose of providing our clients with the exact balance of nutrients needed for optimal health benefits.  Whether you are looking for an organic juice blend containing chlorophyll for its healing properties or vitamin C to help cure the basic cold or flu, we have just what your body needs.
